SUNDAY 10TH JUNE 2007-- Waldron Walk
A glorious day dawned and 17 assorted humans (and one dog) gathered at the home of Barry and Gill Cotterill; 16 of those bodies transported there in an equal assorted collection of cars. To save blushes Giovani's transport will not be mentioned further but a Brera, GT, 24v 916 Spider, 105 Spider, 155 and 145 joined the hosts' 916TS Spider and 156 2.0 JTS to grace the driveway.

Departure was only slightly delayed and the stroll started on local lanes before turning off through fields and woods. Rain earlier in the week had made some parts of the route muddy and slippery but all appeared to enjoy the route we took. Waldon is quite rural and we had a good mix of mainly woodland interspersed with fields and occasional short stretches of tarmac. Barry had recce'd the route earlier in the week with the benefit of drier ground and without somewhat slower bodies to occasionally guide. In the event the planned route of around two hours had to be shortened as two hours came and went with some distance still to be covered. It would be face-saving to say that the last-minute change was the reason that our guide missed the final tell-tale that would take us onto a barely discernible deer trail. To be fair the sign was no more than a 30 inch piece of rotting branch, amongst many such. But by the time steps were retraced and the final leg of the route embarked upon the sign had `grown' in the minds of some present to the size of a Cutty Sark mainmast, which no self respecting guide could possibly have missed!

That final leg of the route terminated, hopefully with relieved surprise as we emerged from Waldron's version of secondary jungle, at the bottom of the Cotterill's garden. A short climb up the slope of the garden found everyone ensconced in the waiting garden chairs whilst Gill and volunteer helpers provided cold drinks, amongst which the pink (non-alcoholic) offering appeared to be favourite.

An assortment of sandwiches and cake with teas and coffee followed as the intrepid walkers chilled out in the afternoon sun.

After a relaxing hour, or two, a quick group photograph and it was time to wend the way home. Thank you to all who came and made the effort of planning and preparation worthwhile.
